Ghana currently producing excess power - GRIDCo

Image
The Chief Executive of the Ghana Grid Company has hinted of a temporary suspension of the load-shedding exercise in the country since July 29, 2016. This, William Amuna attributes to the country's production of an extra 110 megawatts of power. A shortfall in power supply resulted in unannounced power cuts in the country in June and July this year. Many experts urged the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to declare load-shedding but the government refused and insisted that the problem was for a short period and that it will be addressed in due course. The situation stabilized few weeks ago and the CEO of GRIDCo said the power tranmission company is now able to meet demand which is about 1800 megawatts. “Asogli is not working now and if it comes on-stream, it means we will have more in excess,” Mr Amuna indicated in an interview with Joy News’ Beatrice Adu. Meanwhile, there has been a major oil find in the Tweneboah Enyera Ntome (TEN) Field which is expected to

J.J. Calls On NDC To Dictate Terms Of Elections

Image
The Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President Jerry John Rawlings, has urged the party to dictate the terms for this year’s general election.According to him, it would be suicidal for the NDC to allow the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to determine the terms for the election. “We cannot afford to fight them on their terms. Let us not mimic their behaviour, otherwise we will run into serious problems,” he said. The former President, who was speaking at the launch of the NDC’s campaign in Cape Coast yesterday, sent the large gathering laughing when he said the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, had engaged him in a chat prior to his address and expressed hope that he would not deliver one of his rattling speeches that had become known as “Boom speeches”. Internal weaknesses He said the NDC could win the December polls only if it properly dealt with its internal weaknesses and called for a return to the values that underpinned the formation

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is at the top of his game despite his age and can spearhead Manchester United's trophy drive both at home and in Europe, says Jose Mourinho. United boss Mourinho was thrilled with his team's 3-1 win at Bournemouth on the Premier League's opening weekend, with Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Ibrahimovic scoring at the Vitality Stadium. Some have questioned whether Ibrahimovic can thrive in the fast and furious Premier League at the age of 34. But Mourinho dismissed the Swede's age, saying: "Forget the passport, forget 34 years old: the body and mentality is not of a 34-year-old guy. Zlatan Ibrahimovic found the bottom corner from range against Bournemouth "I think he's at the top of his qualities. His table for breakfast and his table for meals, he is surrounded by the young ones, surrounded by the

Madina Lorry Park To Become Modern Terminal

Image
The management of the Madina Lorry Park (MLP) in the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality in Accra, Decorbuild Limited, has disclosed its intention to turn the park into a modern bus terminal. Management has, therefore, entreated users of the facility, particularly commercial drivers, to be patient, since plans are underway to put up a first-class terminal at the site before the year ends. In an interaction with some drivers on Tuesday, July 26 this year, they blamed management of the park for the bad condition of the facility. According to them, poor conditions at the park had compelled commuters to board vehicles by the roadside. That, the commercial drivers said, had angered them because it was affecting their business. Last Friday, the Daily Graphic visited the facility and can confirm that clearing works leading to the construction of a new terminal had begun. Refurbishment of MLP Management of the facility indicated that the decision to modernise the park was
