IGP to brief media on the Afram Plains robbery today.

The Inspector General of Polic, John Kudalor will today brief the media on reports that some of its officers allegedly attempted to rob a GCB bank bullion van in Afram Plains in the Easter Region. “Following the recent armed robbery incident at Afram Plains in which two police men were allegedly involved and subsequent developments, the Inspector General of Police and the entire Police Management Board will address a press conference to highlight some pertinent issues,” a statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Police Service, Supt. Cephas Arthur added. The attempted robbery led to the death of the driver of the van after a heated exchange of gunfire between the police officer in the van and the suspects.Though the officers were arrested and were being conveyed to Koforidua, the regional Police command, they managed to escape to neighboring towns. Security intensified in Donkorkrom; REGSEC initiates background checks on police officers

The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has initiated background checks on police officers in the Region barely two days after two officers were busted for allegedly engaging in a robbery incident. Eastern Regional Minister, Mavis Frimpong, told Joy News the objective of the checks is to afford the Eastern Regional Police Command the opportunity to flash out personnel who have past criminal record. “We are still going to beef up security to ensure that lives and property are not destroyed and we are going to check the background of existing security personnel and check if there are other people involved,” she said. Kenya bans night weddings in Mombasa

Night weddings have been banned in Kenya’s coastal region of Mombasa as the authorities say they have become a target for criminals. The county’s commissioner said the decision was taken after an increase in attacks by knife-wielding gangs. Wedding ceremonies in Mombasa can last for as long as five days and include parties that go on late into the night. The ban came into effect immediately and celebrations had to end by 22:00 local time, the commissioner said. Families who wanted a wedding to continue after this time would have to get police clearance and pay a fee for armed officers, County Commissioner Maalim Mohamed said. The move comes after a group of women were attacked and their valuables were stolen after they left a night-time wedding, Kenya’s Citizen newspaper reports. Actress and  Diamond Appiah says the people criticizing Bishop Daniel Obinim are attention seekers. In a Facebook post Wednesday evening she lashed out at Nana Oye Lithur, Minister of  Gender, Children and Social Protection and other Gender Activists over Obinim’s flogging incident. “Where were Nana Oye Lithur and those gender activists who are out today seeking for attention?, when those montie 3 were seriously insulting and planning to rape the only female occupying the Judiciary structure of government who is in person of Chief Justice Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood?? None of them were out to defend the woman.” she wrote. The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection led by Nana Oye Lithur, reported Pastor Obinim of the International Godsway Church to the Accra Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.
