Four Die In Accident On Accra-Kumasi Highway

  Four persons were last Sunday killed in a gory accident involving two vehicles at Apeatu, a community between Suhum and Nsawam along the Accra-Kumasi highway. Thirteen others are on admission at the Suhum Government Hospital following the accident involving a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicle, with registration number GW 9270-Z, and a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus, with registration number AS 2389-13. Those who died are yet to be identified, but their bodies have been deposited at the morgue of the Suhum Government Hospital. The accident, which occurred around 6.45 p.m., is said to have thrown the farming community into a state of shock and mourning. Work Begins On Brofuyedru-Adumasa Road

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr John Alexander Ackon, has cut the sod for construction works to begin on a new road connecting Brofoyedru to Adumasa through Ofoase in the Atwima Kwanwoma District in the Ashanti Region. The 18-km road, which is being constructed by YKB Construction firm, is expected to be completed within 18 months. Mr Ackon said the road was being financed through the Enhanced Road Fund, managed by the Feeder Roads Department and targeted at bringing development to rural areas in the country. He said when the road was completed, it would open up towns in the area to businesses and bring about enhanced economic activities. Mr Ackon added that the road had historic perspectives, since it was the first time a road was being constructed to link up the towns. Litigants Cautioned Against Bribing Court Officials

Justice of the Appeal Court, Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei, has cautioned litigants against attempts to bribe court officials, including clerks and administrators, to gain favour and influence the course of justice. Justice Adjei gave the caution in Obuasi and said acts of bribery constituted a criminal offence and perpetrators would be dealt with. He said all legal payments must be accompanied by appropriate receipts and asked persons engaged in law suits not to take it for granted. The Appeal Court Justice noted that in order to discourage malpractices, the courts had designated a number of banks where payments to the court could be made. He said if it could be avoided, no payment should be made at offices of the courts but should rather be channelled through the designated banks in order to avoid the temptation to engage in bribery. Damongo District Hospital Shut Down Following Attacks On Nurses

Healthcare services at the Damongo District Hospital in the West Gonja District in the Northern Region came to a halt last Monday following a decision by health workers at the facility to lay down their tools. The action was in protest against the attacks on some health workers by some residents of the area. Patients who went to the facility for medical services had to go back home or elsewhere. By the end of the day, the health workers had refused to rescind their decision despite the assurances from the police, the district assembly and the Chief of the area, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa I, that the issue would be solved. GNPC Set To Sell TEN Crude Oil To TOR

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is prepared to sell its share of crude oil from the Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme (TEN) oilfields in the Western Region to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR). It said it was also ready to dialogue with its partners to sell either all or part of their share of crude oil from the TEN oilfields to TOR. TOR was faced with numerous challenges resulting in the refinery not producing for a couple of years but it has surmounted its problems and currently refining crude products. The TEN project, which has 80 per cent oil and 20 per cent gas reserves, is expected to experience its first drop of crude oil on August 18, 2016. Ghana Gas To Haul LPG By Marine Transport

The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has initiated a process to facilitate the switch from the bulk road haulage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to marine transport. Under the initiative, a vessel will shuttle between a Ghana Gas jetty to be constructed at Domule, the tank farm at Bonyire, and the ports of Takoradi and Tema for onward distribution to inland parts of the country. The move is expected to reduce the large number of LPG haulage trucks on the road, which comes with various risks in the distribution of the product from Atuabo to other parts of the country. Safety on the roads Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Dr George Sipa-Adja Yankey, said the haulage of tonnes of LPG over several hundreds of kilometres through communities was not the best. “But with a jetty, vessels could lift to Tema or Takoradi and to other West African countries to ensure that the product got to the end users along the logistics and supp
