Mahama promises free tertiary education if…

President John Dramani Mahama has hinted of plans by his administration to make tertiary education free. But this according to him, will depend on a number of factors including an improvement in the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Mahama's administration is currently running what it calls a progressively free Senior High School education policy. The President made the announcement on Wednesday while addressing students of the University of Cape Coast as part of his five-day tour of the Central Region. “I wish to assure you that, as Ghana's GDP continues to grow and as you continue to make wealth, we will continue to make tertiary education progressively free so that you pay less fees. Driver, 34, Jailed 4 Years For Defiling Daughter, 16

A 34-year-old man Abubakari Bediako has been sentenced to four years in prison for defiling his 16-year-old daughter. The Circuit Court presided over by Judge Ruby Quaison passed the sentence in her chambers Thursday morning. Bediako, a driver at Amasaman in the Greater Accra region was arrested after his wife reported the case to the Police in November 2015 after she discovered that their daughter was pregnant. After subjecting her daughter to strict questioning, the teenager revealed that her father was constantly forcing her to have sex with him. The 16-year-old girl also stated that her father warned her not to disclose their ordeal to anyone. The girl whose identity is being protected kept the incident a secret for fear of being penalized. She added that her father had sex with her anytime her mother who is a cleaner left for night shift. He was arrested immediately and charged. He pleaded guilty in court and was convicted. Alleged denial of Bawumia access to AICC ‘petty’ – Bombande

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has debunked claims   that it denied the New Patriotic Party's vice presidential nominee, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia access to the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) for his public lecture slated for today [Thursday]. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Emmanuel Bombande, described the accusations as “petty” in an interview with Citi News ' Sixtus Dong Ullo. The organizers of the lecture say they were denied access at the eleventh hour; despite previous meetings and assurances by managers of the facility which is under the Ministry. They subsequently announced that the event will be held at the National Theatre. They also accused government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; of trying to sabotage the event because it fears Dr Bawumia will expose how bad it had run the economy. President John Mahama has called the bluff of persons agitating for the restoration of the teacher trainee allowance. He says he would choose to risk his second term bid on grounds of principles than on petty politicking which he blames his opponents for doing. “For partisan politics purposes you have your political opponent come and say when we come back we will restore trainee allowances to colleges of education. For me it is better to lose the election on principle than win it on falsehood,” he said. President Mahama made these remarks on Wednesday when he addressed students and faculty heads of the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region as part of his campaign tour ahead of the general election. I Will Win Grammy For Ghana — Black Prophet

  Ghanaian Reggae and dancehall artiste, Kenneth Wilberforce Zonto, known as Black Prophet says he will win a Grammy award for Ghana. Black Prophet, who has been away from Ghana for some time now said this on his social media (Facebook) handle. According to him, “I will put African Roots Rock Reggae on the musical map and bring a Grammy back to Ghana” . The ‘Let Me Do My Thing’ hit maker, Black Prophet has recorded songs for his upcoming album launch.
