NADMO Introduces Early Warning System On Flooding

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has designed an early warning system to help alert communities in flood-prone areas using mediums such as mobile phone alerts. The initiative would ensure that flood-prone communities receive information on rain that has the potential to cause floods and adopt the required response. Torrential rains in 1968, 1995,1997, 1999, 2001, 2010, 2011,  2013 and 2014, also caused catastrophes in parts of the country. A Principal Disaster Control Officer at the Hydrometereological Department of the organisation, Mr Bright Tsriku, told the Daily Graphic that it was a project that identified flood hotspots in selected districts across the country. “We have been able to identify the hot spots, we have been able to mark them and can relay information quickly to the residents about flooding for them to take the appropriate action,” he said on the fringes of a workshop on needs assessment for an integrated flood management for the Wh...

Image
Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah says the destiny of Ghana should not be subjected to a "trial and error" by voting for a different party in the December 2016 election. He believes given the infrastructural projects among other initiatives that President John Mahama has undertaken the last four years, he would do more when given a second term. "If one system is working just as has been acknowledged in terms of the infrastructure that we have seen I believe that we give that particular system the chance to continue with the process that they want to do," he said. Addressing the Wanaa and Walaa Traditional Council in the Upper West Region, Mr Debrah said Ghanaians should not be in a haste to vote out President Mahama because he is the safest hand among his opponents. "I want to assure you that you are in safe hands if you continue to keep the government of President Mahama because he will ensure that whatever you deserve will come to the community." ...
