Two Women Arrested At Ankaful Prisons For Smuggling ‘Wee

  Officers at the Ankaful Maximum Prisons have arrested two women who attempted to smuggle some banned substances to some inmates in the prisons. The women, Grace Kusi, 60, and Mary Nyanka, 22, concealed the substances suspected to be Indian hemp popularly known as wee and others such as mobile phones and chargers in 47 parcels of a local soap called ‘Azuma Blows’ or ‘Don’t Touch me’. The commodities, the women explain were meant for two inmates namely Ali Omar Fulani and Razak Abubakar who are serving 15 and 63 years respectively. The women also revealed to the Police that the two inmates are their relatives. ASP Daniel Matchator, the Public Relations Officers for the Central Regional Prisons Service Division said the suspects have been handed over to the Elmina Police command for further investigation.  Source: radioxyzonline.com

Let Have Elections Devoid Of Violence –Persons With Disability Appeal To Political Parties

Persons with disability (PWDs) have made a passionate appeal to political parties, their supporters and other actors in this year’s general election to ensure that the poll is devoid of violence, since the physically challenged are more vulnerable to incidents of electoral violence. According to them, while able-bodied Ghanaians could find their way out of the country when there was violence, they stood no chance of surviving the chaos. The leaders of the Ghana Association of Persons with Albinism, the Ghana National Association of the Deaf, the Ghana Blind Union and the Ghana Federation of the Disabled also urged the parties to prioritise the needs of PWDs and not do so as an afterthought. NADMO Introduces Early Warning System On Flooding

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has designed an early warning system to help alert communities in flood-prone areas using mediums such as mobile phone alerts. The initiative would ensure that flood-prone communities receive information on rain that has the potential to cause floods and adopt the required response. Torrential rains in 1968, 1995,1997, 1999, 2001, 2010, 2011,  2013 and 2014, also caused catastrophes in parts of the country. A 28-year-old pregnant woman disrupted a wedding ceremony at the Sepaase Grace Baptist Church on hearing her partner with whom she has one child was getting married to a member of his congregation. Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah says the destiny of Ghana should not be subjected to a "trial and error" by voting for a different party in the December 2016 election. He believes given the infrastructural projects among other initiatives that President John Mahama has undertaken the last four years, he would do more when given a second term. "If one system is working just as has been acknowledged in terms of the infrastructure that we have seen I believe that we give that particular system the chance to continue with the process that they want to do," he said. Addressing the Wanaa and Walaa Traditional Council in the Upper West Region, Mr Debrah said Ghanaians should not be in a haste to vote out President Mahama because he is the safest hand among his opponents. Commercial drivers to strike over introduction of Bus Rapid Transport

A group calling itself Committed Drivers Association (CDA) has threatened to strike next week Monday over the soon to be introduced operation of the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT). Spokesperson of CDA, Francis Appiah told Joy News their source of livelihood stands threatened if some outstanding issues regarding the BRT are not ironed out immediately. He said it is not that “we don’t want the bus to work but what we need is that the bus should work while we also do our work.” But the operators of the company have rejected that. Samsung will limit the batteries of South Korean Note 7 smartphones to 60% of their capacity following a recall of the devices. The firm asked for Note 7s to be returned following cases of phones that exploded during or after charging. An ad announcing the move appeared on the front page of the  JoongAng Daily newspaper . The software update to limit batteries seems intended to provoke users who haven't yet returned their handsets. It will begin to be rolled out from 20 September, the ad says. The Associated Press reported that a similar advertisement also appeared on the front page of the Seoul Shinmun paper. Filing fees: EC unmoved by tears from political parties

The Electoral Commission has rebuffed claims it fixed an unreasonable filing fees for presidential and parliamentary aspirants lining up for this year's polls. Director of Communications Eric Dzakpasu said the Commission only followed due process of law in asking aspirants-presidential and parliamentary- to deposit ¢50,000, and ¢10,000 respectively as filing fees for the December polls. The Commission has come under serious attack from some political parties who believe the filing fees are outrageous. "You do not need to have financial muscle to contribute your quota to the development of the nation.
