Anyidoho : NDC Will Deal With Martey As NPP Propagandist

Image
The deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has chided the immediate past moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Professor Emmanuel Martey, for doing the bidding of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). He noted the NDC will henceforth deal with Prof. Martey as an NPP propagandist. Prof Martey at a news conference on Tuesday, 30 August 2016 alleged that some politicians attempted gagging him with a US$100,000 bribe. “Politicians have tried all means to muzzle me, to get me but they can’t, they come with bribes, fat envelopes, $100, 000…I want everybody to listen that politicians came to my house with $100, 000 and also with the promises that if you keep quiet we will give you a house at Trasaaco with swimming pool. “We will give you Four Wheel drive [vehicle] but you know what, these people were lucky that I do not have big dogs in my house else I would have released the dogs for them to bite them,” he tol

Prof. Martey lied, he took $100k, vehicle bribe – Former Presby PRO allege

Image
Former public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has disclosed that the outgoing Moderator of the church, Prof. Emmanuel Martey, was indeed bribed with money and a vehicle by some politicians. This revelation contradicts earlier claims by Prof Martey. Prof Emmanuel Martey had said he almost unleashed his dogs on the unnamed politicians who had come to bribe him to keep his mouth shut. Dr. Emmanuel Osei Acheampong says Prof Martey is throwing dust in the eyes of the public by denying that he received the bribe. Dr Acheampong said the bribe was meant to influence the church’s sermons and pursue the agenda of the party. Speaking to Kasapa News’ Akwasi Nsiah, the former PRO alleged that a leading member of one of the opposition parties presented the money to him (Prof. Emmanuel Martey). The former Presby PRO said these in Twi: Today marks a sad day for the Christian religion, the statement from Prof Martey is one of the most unfortunate that I

The GJA last Saturday, August 27, 2016, for the second time, crowned Anas with the GJA’s topmost honour. He has so far won four awards for being the best in Investigative Journalism. But the lawyer for Justice Dery, Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo, is not happy with the turn of events, considering the fact that a case challenging the capacity of Anas’s investigative agency will be decided at the Supreme Court on October 27, 2016. According to counsel, his client was considering citing Anas and the GJA’s Awards Committee for contempt of court “because the award prejudices t

We're ready for battle of insults; Insult one, get two free- Veep warns NPP

I'M NOT A DANCEHALL QUEEN; I'M A MUSICIAN - MZVEE

Image
'Boko Boko' hitmaker, Mzvee, has made it clear that when it comes to music, she doesn't want to be pigeon-holed, period.  During an interview with Delay, the young vibrant singer explained her "dancehall queen" proclamation in a song with "dancehall king" Shatta Wale by saying it was not a jab at fellow musician Kaakie, but rather a showcase of love. The host pushed her by asking, "so you're not the dancehall queen?", and she responded "yes, I am a musician".  I wouldn't like to be restricted to particular genre because i do all sorts of music- she added.  According to her, Shatta Wale and herself played some sort of "love interest" on the song My Everything and the dancehall king and queen names, somewhat were just "pet names", like lovers have. "People just misunderstood the context of how it came out"- she added. The 2016 VGMA best female vocalist ended by saying that she has no animosity towa

Don’t Be Mercenaries; EC Boss Advises Journalists

Image
Investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was last Saturday named the Journalist of the Year 2015 at the 21st Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, at which the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Charlotte Osei, urged media owners and journalists to resist any attempt to be used as mercenaries in the run up to the December general election. “Doing so will hinder the growth of the media and turn the admiration people ought to have for the media into disdain and contempt. A journalist who allows himself or herself to be used as an agent of destruction is not different from the proverbial goat which aims at destroying the wall but ends up losing its fur,” she stated. She said the power of the media as a constructive and destructive force ought not to be underestimated, noting that the use of that power ought to be geared towards the desire and willingness to ensure that the right things would be done in the country. Towards that end, she said, the c

Cristiano Ronaldo crowned 2015/16 Uefa Best Player in Europe

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo has been crowned as the 2015/16 Uefa Best Player in Europe. The Portuguese was named ahead of Real Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezmann to be acknowledged as the best player playing on the continent. Surprisingly, Lionel Messi was not nominated for the award, leaving the two Real Madrid stars and Atletico Madrid’s Griezmann to contest for the ultimate prize. The original 11-man shortlist included Messi, Gianluigi Buffon, Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer, Pepe and Luis Suarez as well as the top three nominees. But it was Ronaldo who emerged triumphant in a year where he guided Real Madrid to Champions League glory as well as winning Euro 2016 with Portugal. It was an equally impressive year for Bale who took unfancied Wales to the semi-finals of the Euros on top of lifting the Champions League. However, it was a year of so close but so far for France international Griezmann who was a runner-up in Euro 2016 and also missed a

Police handling of Obinim a perverse form of power play - Criminologist

Image
A criminologist is criticizing the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for deploying what he describes as revolutionary tactics in the case of Bishop Daniel Obinim. Ken Attafuah says the Police acted unprofessionally when they cuffed the Bishop in the full glare of the public knowing too well the Bishop will not escape. The criminologist said the conduct of the police smacks of an old revolutionary tactic. "It is a throwback to primitivity. It is a moribund policing tactic which belongs to the medieval period," he said, adding, "this is the kind policing that was commonplace with the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) period." The leader of the International God's Way Church has been charged with assault and defrauding by false pretense of some GH¢11.6 million cedis. He was to be arraigned before the Accra High Court Thursday on charges of assault after days of interrogation and transfers between the CID

Single Christians can have sex as long as it's 'mutually pleasurable, affirming' - Pastor

Image
Bucking against conservative Christian tradition advising against extra-marital sex, the Rev. Bromleigh McCleneghan, a married mother of three and associate pastor for ministry with families at Union Church of Hinsdale in Illinois, says single Christians can have sex as long as it's "mutually pleasurable and affirming." Citing 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, many Mainline Protestant and evangelical churches like the  Assemblies of God Church , advise against sexual relations among single Christians. "Today within our society singles exist for one of two reasons — by choice, or by circumstance. In either case the Bible's mandate is clear for all unmarried individuals: they are to remain sexually pure (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)," the Assemblies of God church warned. For McCleneghan, however, whose views are comprehensively captured in her new book,  Good Christian Sex: Why Chastity Isn't the Only Option — And Other Things the Bible Says About Sex ,  singl

Terkper: Govt Conservative About Growth Prospects

Image
The Minister of Finance, Mr Seth Terkper, has said the government has decided to adopt a firm but conservative approach to making macroeconomic assumptions, in spite of the bright economic outlook. He said with the Tweneboa-Enyera-Ntomme (TEN) fields, the Jubilee fields, as well as the Sankofa field, for which a third FPSO was at an advanced stage of construction, added to the government securing a World Bank partial risk guarantee, growth was expected to expand. That, he said, was complemented by a growing services sector and improvement in the power situation in particular. He said for the first time since 2006, Ghana aimed to achieve a primary fiscal balance surplus in the 2016 fiscal year. No over-excitement. Mr Terkper, who said this during a press briefing in Accra yesterday, however, added that “going forward, we want to be conservative. We would not want to be over-excited about the TEN fields and Sankofa. We must learn lessons from our first experience when we es
