Resurfacing Of Oda-Akyem Chia Road Progresses


Resurfacing of the 51.4 Kilometre road from Oda to Akyem Chia, which forms part of the Oda-Nkwakaw main road, is progressing steadily.workers labour

Hardwork Company, which is working on the 34.6 kilometre portion of the road from Ofoase to Chia, is applying the second coating of bitumen; while Archwork Company, which is undertaking the Ofoase-Oda portion of the road, has completed about 50 per cent of the project. The District Chief Executive (MCE) for Akyemansa, Mr Tom Budu, who led newsmen to inspect the project last Wednesday, said the two contractors were expected to complete the project by the end of November, 2016.
He stressed that the President Mahama-led government took a bold decision to undertake the project, which had been neglected by successive governments, in order to bring lasting relief to the residents of the area who produce a bulk of the nation’s wealth.
Mr Budu emphasised that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was committed to the development of roads in the rural areas to facilitate the movement of people and the haulage of agricultural produce to the urban centres.
In that direction, he said the government had awarded the 6.5 kilometre Akyem-Ayirebi-Odumase feeder road in the district for resurfacing as part of the cocoa syndicate loan projects.
The DCE gave an assurance that the district assembly would continue to reshape all feeder roads in the area until the government secures the required resources to tar them.
Mr Budu said plans were far advanced to tar the Ayirebi and Abenase town roads to give the two communities a facelift.
A prominent traditional ruler in the district, the Kotokuomhene and Kyidomhene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Boakye Akoto, commended President Mahama and Mr  Budu for their commitment to the development of the district.
